Purpose and Scope of Application
The AMX520 and AMX520/M (A-meter ®) are a compact portable two-axis acceleration meters for digital measurement and processing of signal, built using microprocessor technology.
The primary purpose of the AMX520 is to measure negative longitudinal acceleration (deceleration) in braking. This AMX520 function conforms to the WT-ITS 23/99-ZDO recommendations issued by the Motor Transport Institute concerning decelerometers and is used to examine performance of brakes in vehicles and farm tractors. To meet accuracy requirements specified in that document regarding deceleration measurement, the AMX520 measures real-time acceleration in two mutually perpendicular axes lying in the vehicle's longitudinal plane. The signals are processed with the help of a deceleration-assessing algorithm. The algorithm is capable of eliminating false deceleration resulting from a change in the inclination angle of the vehicle cab in relation to the level at the braking time (so called "diving" effect). Apart from the vehicle's longitudinal deceleration, the AMX520 allows you also to measure the pressure applied to the brake pedal. This force is measured with the use of precise strain gauge transducer, and then converted into an electrical signal. Braking deceleration and the force applied to brake pedal are measured and recorded synchronically during braking to the processor memory, and are then processed and displayed on the AMX520 LCD display. In addition, those measurement records can be sent into a PC through a standard RS-232 connector, to be visualized and archived.
You can use the standard version of the AMX520 to:
- Assess brakes performance of motor vehicles during scheduled inspection and maintenance checks conducted at the Vehicle Testing Station.
- Measure vehicles' longitudinal performance to assess the "on-the-road" engine power. Such assessment is usually conducted by repair and tuning facilities.
How to Measure Deceleration:
- place the acceleration recorder on the vehicle's floor, positioning it toward the vehicle driving direction,
- bring the vehicle to a speed of 30 km/h,
- rozpędź pojazd do prędkości 30 km/h i wciśnij pedał hamulca,
- the tool will log the braking deceleration and display the measurement results,
- the PC software is then used to illustrate the deceleration and generate a report assessing the performance of the brakes.
